PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound resistant to hydrolysis, enabling various molecular designs, and useful as e.g. a curing agent for expoxy resins. SOLUTION: This new compound is shown by formula I [R is a single bond, -SO2-, O, a group of formula II, cycloalkylidene or the like; R1 and R2 are each a 1-4C alkyl, cyclohexyl or phenyl; (m) and (n) are each 0 or 1-4], e.g. bis[4-(4-trimellitic anhydride amidophenoxy)phenyl]sulfone. The compound of formula I is obtained by reaction between a diamine compound of formula III and trimellitic anhydride monochloride.
