RECORDING MEDIA STORING WRITE PROTECTION INFORMATION AND WRITE PROTECTION METHOD

PURPOSE: Recording media and write protection method are provided to protect data stored in a rewritable disc from a record that a user does not want. CONSTITUTION: A recording media such as a digital versatile disc random access memory(DVD-ROM) is used in a state of a cartridge inserted into a case which has a write protection switch. A write protection information is recorded in a lead-in area and/or a lead-out area of a disc except a user data area thereof, thereby protecting data from a record which a user does not want by using the write protection information. In addition, the data is protected when the write protection information stored in the disc and the write protection switch status of the case are inconsistent with each other. Therefore, the write protection of rewritable recording media such as a DVD-RAM or a digital versatile disc rewritable(DVD-RW) is stably achieved even when the recording media is used in a bare disc state.
