PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject copolymer excellent in both adhering property to various substrates and compatibility with other polymers as compared with the non-funcitonalized copolymer by providing a specific structure. SOLUTION: This syndiotactic styrene/p-methylstyrene copolymer is obtained by providing a structure of the formula [R1, R2 are each H, an alkyl, a primary haloalkyl or a secondary haloalkyl; X is a halogen, a metal, a functional group containing one or more kinds selected from O, S, Si, N, C and P; (a) is 10-30,000; (b) is 0-30,000; (c) is 10,000-30,000]. The copolymer is produced e.g. by copolymerizing monomers of styrene with a p-alkylstyrene (e.g. p-methylstyrene) by using a metallocene as a catalyst, then performing a halogenation or a metallization reaction, and then performing a functional group-forming reaction thereof. As the catalyst system, further, it is preferable to contain an activating co-catalyst such as methylaluminoxane, etc. |
