PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing tetracyclododecene(TCD) in high yield while suppressing the solidification of norbornene distilled off in its distillation and recovery. SOLUTION: This method for producing TCD comprises the following 3 steps: (1) a reaction is carried out under heating between (a) ethylene, (b) cyclopentadiene and/or dicyclopentadiene and (c) norbornene in the presence of an aliphatic solvent having a boiling point within the range of the boiling point of norbornene±10 deg.C to produce a reaction mixture comprising norbornene, TCD and the aliphatic solvent, (2) a mixture comprising the norbornene and the aliphatic solvent is recovered from the above reaction mixture by distillation and then circulated to the step 1, and (3) the objective TCD is separated and recovered from the resulting reaction mixture.
