PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a large-volume treatment and to cleanly change and remove the fleshy portions, such as adductor muscles, from shells with simple treatment equipment and treatment method by disposing a treating vessel which has an aperture and allows the feeding of the shells from this aperture and an oil liquid supplying device which is capable of supplying the heated oil liquid to the shells packed in this treating vessel. SOLUTION: A prescribed amt. of the shellsαare packed into the treating vessel 1. The oil liquid 20 heated to a prescribed temp. by a heat exchanger is thereafter circulated and supplied into the treating vessel 1 to immerse the shellsαinto the oil liquid 20. The oil liquid 20 of high temp. acts as a heat medium to impart direct heat to the shellsαand to thermally denature the flesh sticking to the shellsα, thereby gradually carbonizing the flesh in a short period of time. When the carbonization of the flesh sticking to the shellsαends, the oil liquid 20 in the treating vessel 1 is withdrawn. The oil liquid 20 is introduced together with the shellsαthrough piping 31 into a solid-liquid separator 3 after the flesh is made into carbide in order to separate and remove the oil liquid 20 remaining on the surfaces of the shellsα. The shellsαfrom which the oil liquid 20 is removed are processed by a drying device 4, by which the oil liquid 20 may be more perfectly removed.
