PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a sewer system for a building with several sanitary units including a closet and a urinal, especially for a building shared with a number of inhabitants including an apartment house, a hotel, a hospital, etc. SOLUTION: A sewer system includes a disposal system under an atmospheric pressure, a sanitary unit with a water trap, a branching sewer pipe 3 for connecting the sanitary unit to the disposal system, and a vacuum generator connected to the branching sewer pipe 3 for generating a low pressure than an atmospheric pressure in the branching sewer pipe 3. The vacuum generator is connected to the branching sewer pipe 3 to allow waste to pass through the branching sewer pipe 3 to the disposal system without being blocked by temporarily closed elements. A method for operating this system is also disclosed.
