PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To treat a specimen in order to eliminate the influence of reducing substances in the specimen by bringing the specimen into contact with a pyridine compound having a metal-chelating action under a specifically basic pH condition before measuring a measuring object in the specimen. SOLUTION: When treating a specimen before measuring a measuring object (e.g. glycohemoglobin) in the specimen, the method of this invention is to bring the specimen into contact with a pyridine compound (e.g. disodium bathophenanthroline sulfonate or the like) having a metal-chelating action at >=pH 9.0 in order to eliminate the influence of reducing substances consisting of at least one of glutathion and ascorbic acid and in order to gain measured values excellent in reliability at a low cost.
