PURPOSE: A device is provided to draw out the effective signal on which pollutants such as lint and disturbant light, relatively, influence little and to be useful for whether a thread exists or for a thread passing. CONSTITUTION: An opto-electronic device(S) detects the movement of a thread passing transversely through a scanning region(11) on a storage drum(3) of a thread feed(F). This device is connected on to the storage drum(3) with at least one light source(L), and it is at a short distance away on the side of the scanning region(11). At least one reflector(B) separated from light source(S) and at least one signal-generating receiver(R) directed toward the scanning region are provided on this device. The reflector is extended roughly parallel to the longitudinal direction of the thread, and it is a narrow and approximately flat reflection strip(15, 15', 15') extended toward the circumferential of the storage drum. The reflection strip is bordered on the longitudinal side by ether strip diaphragm fitted between reflector(B) and passage plane(13) of the thread(Y) or diaphragmed region(17) arranged approximately in the reflector plane.
