PURPOSE: A semiconductor memory device is provided to end a burst mode in use according a requirement without increasing the command number of a system. CONSTITUTION: The semiconductor memory device operating in a burst mode and a normal operation mode comprises: a first circuit(11) for generating a burst stop signal in response to a mode register set command used in the normal operation mode; and a second circuit(12) for generating a predetermined signal by use of the mode register set command in the normal operation mode and inactivating the mode register set command in the burst mode, whereby the burst mode is ended by use of the mode register set command.
