PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION CONTAINING BILE ALCOHOL AS ACTIVE INGREDIENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition capable of manifesting protecting actions on a vascular endothelial cell and effective in the prophylaxis or therapy of arteriosclerosis, diabetes, or the like, caused by angiopathy due to injury to the vascular endothelial cell by including a bile alcohol. SOLUTION: This composition contains a bile alcohol and/or its conjugate (e.g. scymnol, sodium scymnol sulfate, chimaerol, sodium chimaerol sulfate, 5α-cyprinol, 5β-cyprinol, 5β-molanol, 5 β-petromyzonol or 7-deoxyscymnol). A carrier or an optional ingredient which is physiologically nontoxic can further be formulated with the composition. The composition can be utilized as a medicine or a food and enables the therapy or propylaxis of thrombosis, diabetes, hyperlipemia or arteriosclerosis by protecting a vascular endothelial cell.
