PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject medicine useful for treating and improving cerebral nerve disease, cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal disease, malignant tumor, infectious disease, organ transplantation, renal insufficiency, hepatic insufficiency, etc., by including a specific cholesteryl glucopyranoside as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: TIG-3 cell, a human fibroblast strain is cultured at 37 deg.C, is provided with heat stress by adding a medium at 42 deg.C and cultibated at 42 deg.C for a fixed time. A lipid is extracted by using cold methanol and then a chloroform/methanol mixed solution. A part corresponding to a steryl glycoside derived from a slime mold is scratched off and extracted by using silica gel 60HPTLC plate and then purified by high-performance liquid chromatography to give chloesteryl glycopyranoside of the formula (Me is methyl). Then the compound as an active ingredient is pharmaceutically manufactured to give a heat shock protein inducer useful for treating cerebral nerve disease, cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal disease, malignant tumor, infectious disease, multiple sclerosis, etc.
