TELEVISION SYSTEM WITH PROVISIONS FOR DISPLAYING AN AUXILIARY IMAGE OF VARIABLE SIZE

摘要

PURPOSE: A television system with provisions for displaying an auxiliary image of variable size is provided to selectively reduce the size of an auxiliary image without changing the compression ratio of the compressed auxiliary video signal. CONSTITUTION: An auxiliary image can be displayed within main image during "picture-in-picture" or "PIP" mode of operation of a television system. Provisions for displaying an auxiliary image of variable size selectively crop a fixed amount of the auxiliary image, in response to a command signal which a user inputs, in order to selectively change area of the auxiliary image as a fixed size from a first area to a smaller fixed second area without changing the compression ratio of the compressed auxiliary video signal.
