PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display is provided to prevent the gradation degradation from the lower side and the change of color of image to yellow when the image is viewed at an angle with the vertical line of display panel. CONSTITUTION: The liquid crystal display comprise polarizer, phase retardation film, liquid crystal panel, phase retardation film, polarizer in consequence. The color filter side substrate and the TFT side substrate arrayed in parallel in the liquid crystal panel. On the inner surface of the color filter side substrate are formed the transparent electrode and color filter layer. Thin film transistor and transparent pixel electrode are formed on the inner surface of TFT side substrate in an active matrix type. The two substrates are combined with sealant. Liquid crystal layer of actual twist angle of 90 degree containing twisted nematic type liquid crystal sealed by the sealant between the substrates. agent is added to the liquid crystal layer and the helical pitch of liquid crystal exceed sixty micro meter.
