PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound that has the HIV proliferation inhibitory activity and is useful as a proliferation inhibitor against human immuno- deficiency virus. SOLUTION: This is represented by formula I (R1 is H or hydroxy; R2 is methyl, or ethyl; R3 and R4 represent each H or they are incorporated to represent an oxygen atom). The compound of formula I is prepared by culturing a microorganism in Streptomyces capable of producing the compound of formula I, for example, Streptomyces aburaviensis Mer-5504 strain (FERM P-16648) under aerobic conditions.
