PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin composition for coating, having excellent processability, moisture resistance, acid resistance and alkali resistance and useful e.g. for the top-coating of electric appliances by compounding a specific polyester resin with an alkyl-etherified formaldehyde resin. SOLUTION: The objective resin is produced by compounding (A) a polyester resin composed of 100 mol.% of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid such as terephthalic acid and isophthalic acid and 1,6-hexanediol and neopentyl glycol with (B) an alkyl-etherified formaldehyde resin. The compounding weight ratio of A/B is preferably (95-60)/(5-40).
