PURPOSE: A television receiver is provided to prevent a volume control display from being overlapped with a character information of a broadcast program. CONSTITUTION: A main control part(23) outputs an on/off control signal for OSD(on-screen-display) as a volume control signal is input from a remote controller(21). A character generating part(24) generates a character signal according to the on/off control signal of a main control part(23). An OSD unit(25) generates an OSD signal according to the character signal of a character generating part(24). An AND gate(26) logically multiplies the OSD signal of an OSD unit(25) with the on/off control signal of a main control part(23). A mixing part(27) mixes an output of the AND gate with a television signal and outputs the mixed signal to the television screen.
