PURPOSE: A recording/regenerating automatic recognition apparatus is provided to prevent an erroneous setting owing to an immaturity of a user. CONSTITUTION: The recording/regenerating automatic recognition apparatus comprises: a delay flip flop(22) for outputting a channel control signal according to a record mode of a video cassette recorder to a video signal processing part(21); a record select switch(23) for selectively switching an image switch trigger signal(VTi) from the video cassette recorder and a memory read signal(ROE) so as to be supplied to the delay flip flop; a record trigger signal processing part(24) for judging the record mode of the video cassette recorder according to the existence of an input of the image switch trigger signal(VTi) to switch an operation of the record select switch; a regeneration select switch(25) for selectively switching an S-VHS video signal and a normal video signal so as to be supplied to an image input terminal of the video signal processing part; and a synchronous signal detecting part(26) for judging the regeneration mode according to the existence of a synchronous signal for a video signal from the video cassette recorder at video signal regenerating.
