PURPOSE: A refresh signal generator of unfixed period is provided to delay refresh in response to the memory access from outside and then minimize the response speed delay due to the refresh. CONSTITUTION: The refresh signal generator of unfixed period comprises: a period generator(21) generating a refresh period signal of a memory in response to a master clock signal, comparing the refresh number to be performed at present with the refresh number performed at present to calculate the minimum time for satisfying the refresh number to be performed at present, and generating it as the first control signal; a refresh number controller(25) remembering the refresh number to be performed in the refresh period in corresponding to the refresh period signal generated the period generator, counting the present performed refresh number, and generating refresh terminating signal if the refresh is performed at the same number as the refresh number to be performed; and a signal generator(19) generating the refresh signal in accordance with the refresh period signal and terminating the refresh signal generation in response to the refresh termination signal.
