HIGHLY SOLUBLE, WETTABLE AND VISCOUS ROASTED DEXTRIN HAVING STABILITY IN SOLUTION, ITS PRODUCTION AND USE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject dextrin useful for coating and using as a film, having characteristics such as substantially complete solubility into surrounding water. SOLUTION: This roasted dextrin is characterized by substantially 100% soluble in surrounding water and substantially wettable in a surrounding solution having a lower content of free water (preferably 60% sucrose solution), high borated viscosity corresponding to canary dextrin, preferably about >=50,000 cPs borated viscosity, and a solution stability having <100% variation of the solution viscosity within 72 hrs. The dextrin is obtained by preferably dehydrating starch such as acidified tapioca starch to substantially anhydrous condition before attaining a maximum dextrinizing temperature by heating and dextrinizing the resultant starch under substantially anhydrous condition, preferably in a fluid bed reactor, preferably at the maximum dextrinizing temperature of about 110-210 deg.C for 2.5-12 hrs.
