PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an Au-Sn welding member used for the welding between a coated optical fiber and a ferrule. SOLUTION: This Au-Sn welding member 8 having a short size pipe shape as a whol shape and consisting of Au-Sn intermetallic compounds of an amorphous structure is produced by applying Au-Sn plating to a long size wire rod composed of an electrically conductive material to form an Au-Sn plated wire rod, cutting the Au-Sn plated wire rod to a desired length to form into a short size wire rod piece and moreover selectively removing the electrically conductive material forming the core part of the short size wire rod piece.
