摘要 Material mixtures with different compositions and particles of sizes up to 5 mm are collected, possibly conditioned, and fed into a separation liquid where the slowly sinking particles are subjected to a rotating electromagnetic field. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a plant which includes a collection unit, a conditioning unit, a delivery unit with an integrated transport system, a separation unit and collection units with integrated transport system for separated particles; (b) an apparatus (1) (separation unit) which incorporates a separation vessel (2) whose bottom (21) is shaped as an arch (20) surrounding (in the manner of a half shell) an eddy current separator (3). Preferred Features: The collected material mixture is moistened and possibly treated with a wetting agent before it is delivered in measured amounts into the separation liquid whose viscosity is chosen to obtain a desired rate of descent of the material particles. The rate of rotation of the electromagnetic field is adjusted relative to the more intensely magnetizable material particles. The more intensely magnetizable particles are carried towards the conveyor unit (10), while those less magnetizable sink towards the conveyor unit (11). The plant includes a unit in which the particles (after separation) are freed from the separation liquid. Such a unit incorporates washing, pressing, ventilating and heating facilities. The eddy current separator (3) takes the form of a cylindrical carrier (4) of permanent magnets (5, 6) forming an alternating pole sequence. It is provided with an electric drive (7). The material delivery unit (17) is located above the separation vessel (2) so that its adjustable delivery edge (16) is at a specified horizontal distance from the extended center plane of the magnet carrier (4). The separation vessel is made of an electrically non conducting material. It can be made of non magnetizable special steel, or a non permeable plastic material.
