The stopping element (2) moves into its stop position against a spring (11) which in turn re-sets the element to its starting position. In its stop position the element remain locked by bolt (21) until released as the element rides out of the object conveying section. The bolt (21) is spring-mounted in a housing (8) and reaches into the path of the stop element (2) so as to free this in response to the movement of the stop. As the stop moves from start into stop position, the bolt (21) moves with pre-tension relative to the stop face so as to project in front of this in the stop position. As the stop moves into its free position, so the bolt (21) enters the section of a hole in the stop which is then moved by spring (11) into the start position as before. The stop (2) has an L-shaped groove (32) whose leg (33) is as long as the stop-to-start interval distance and retains constant section (33). The other leg of the groove, also as long as this specified interval distance, decreases steadily in depth right down to the groove shoulder end.
