PURPOSE: 3-£(1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline-2-yl)methyl|-8-azabicyclo 3.2.1octanes are provided which have therapeuctical applications such as treating mental disease, various mental disorder, depression and the like. CONSTITUTION: 3-£(1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline-2-yl)methyl|-8-azabicyclo 3.2.1 octanes is produced via a pertinent reaction path and represented by the formula (I). In the formula (I), R1, R2 and R3 each represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or a hydroxy, alkyl or alkoxy group independently, R4 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, 2-methoxyethyoxy, alkoxy, cycloalkymehtoxy or phenylmethoxy group, or optionally, R3 and R4 together form a methylenedioxy group, Z represents oxygen or two hydrogen atoms, and R represents an ethoxy group when Z is oxygen, or represents a phenyl group optionally substituted by one or more halogen atoms or alkyl, alkoxy or amino groups.
