PURPOSE: Providing the compounds with different lipophilicities than the derivatives of the prior art and different volumes of distribution in patients give the ability to control the pharmacokinetic properties and toxicities of the drugs. CONSTITUTION: 2-(2-Hydroxy aryl)-thiazoline-4-carboxylic acids(formula 1) and derivatives are useful bioactive chelators or sequestrants for trivalent metals such as Fe, AL and Cr. They can be administered to human and non-human mammals to prevent the deposition of, e.g., iron in tissues. They are also useful for the elimination of, e.g., iron from such mammals afflicted with, e.g., haemochromatosis, haemosiderosis and also cirrhosis.
