PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably and efficiently obtain a cycloolefin without deterioration of activity of a catalyst by adding a ruthenium catalyst within a specific range of a catalyst slurry concentration and reacting when partially hydrogenating a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon with hydrogen. SOLUTION: This method for obtaining a cycloolefin is performed by subjecting (D) a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon to a partial hydrogenation with hydrogen in the presence of (A) a ruthenium catalyst, (B) water and (C) zinc sulfate and under an acidic condition. In the process, the component A is added into a reactor in which the reaction is performed in a state of two phases of oil phase and water phase to as to catalyst slurry concentration to be 0.05-15% and the reaction is continued. Preferably, the component A is a catalyst containing metallic ruthenium obtained by previously reducing various ruthenium compounds. Preferably, the component A is previously mixed with water to be a slurry state and charged into the reactor in the addition.
