PURPOSE: An image recording system and method thereof are provided to drastically reduces the recognition time when determining the position of technical objects with orthogonal edges and, at the same time, improves the degree of accuracy which can be attained. CONSTITUTION: Image sensors (1, 2) which are rotated through 90 degrees relative to one another and have selective pixel access are used for rapid image recording. In this way, a short pixel access time is attained for the row and column directions. In order to recognize the position of objects (6) with orthogonal edges, the individual light sensitive elements (8) are arranged in a rectangular configuration and/or the spacings between the individual rows (12, 13) are mutually offset. This reduces the number of pixels required and improves the recognition of edges.
