摘要 PURPOSE: A method for handshaking an asynchronous transfer mode(ATM) cell between an ATM layer and a multi physical layer is provided to solve data collision in a multiple universal test and operations physical interface for ATM(multiple UTOPIA) block of UTOPIA level 2 without adding any circuit. CONSTITUTION: An ATM cell handshaking method includes a step of checking whether multi physical layers are selected by the ATM layer or not, and whether the multi physical layers are able to receive data or not. A first physical layer device, which is selected by the ATM layer and receives the possibility status of data reception, transmits an ATM cell transfer starting signal to the ATM layer and all second physical layer devices which are not selected. Also, the first physical layer device transmits the ATM cell to the ATM layer. A second physical layer device, which is not selected by the ATM layer and receives the possibility status of data reception, determines whether the ATM cell transfer starting signal arrives. In addition, the handshaking method further includes the step of controlling such that the ATM cell of the second physical layer device is not transmitted until the ATM cell of the first physical layer device is completely transmitted after the ATM cell transfer starting signal arrives. Thereby, a multi physical layer domain and the other multi physical layer domain are directly connected to ATM layer without adding any connecting circuit.
