PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refuse container that has a lid whose forward rotational overhang is small. SOLUTION: An arm 21 integrated with a lid N that opens or closes an input opening O is turnably mounted on a container body M so that the lid N forms an angle about 45 deg. to the segment that connects the turning axis of the arm 21 and a forward or backward end 20a of the lid N in the turning direction. An interlocking means Q such as a wire 40 interlocks a first operating bar 25 projecting from the turning axis of the arm 21 in the direction counter to the am 21 for turning movement integrated with the arm 21 on the same turning axis, and a second operating bar 36 integrally projecting from a second gear 34, which engages a first gear 33 journalled on the rotary shaft of a foot bar 30 turnably mounted on the bottom of the container body M, in the direction counter to the foot bar 30.
