PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a white tile having a high-grade appearance by kneading a powdery starting material consisting essentially of Al2O3, an alkaline earth metal oxide, an alkali metal oxide and SiO2 with water, molding the kneaded material in a tile shape, forming into a biscuit if necessary and carrying out sintering at a specified temp. SOLUTION: A powdery starting material consisting of, by mass, 15-20% Al2O3, 0.5-1.4% alkaline earth metal oxide, 4.5-5.4% alkali metal oxide and the balance SiO2 with <=1% inevitable impurities is kneaded with at least water. A molding having a tile shape is formed using the kneaded material. This molding may be formed by disposing the kneaded material on the surface of a kneaded material for a relatively inexpensive ordinary tile. The molding is then sintered at 1,200-1,460 deg.C and the surface of the sintered body is mirror- polished if necessary. In other way, the molding is fired at 600-1,100 deg.C to form into a biscuit, a transparent glaze is put on the surface of the biscuit and the prescribed sintering is carried out. The objective white tile having a high-grade appearance is obtd. |
