PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antimicrobial material capable of inhibiting the proliferation of bacteria or the like through setting at places where harmful microorganisms including bacteria tend to proliferate. SOLUTION: This antimicrobial material is obtained by the following procedure: metallic powder 3 with silver vapor-deposited in a vacuum around the nuclei predominant in copper component is dispersed in a coating material 4 such as an acrylic coating material, the resulting coating material 4 is applied on the surface of any base material 2 such as in the form of a resin, stone, metal, woodchip, paper material or textile material; wherein the thickness of the coating film of the coating material 4 is designed to be at the average size of the metallic powder 3 or smaller so as to inhibit the proliferation of bacteria through the synergistic effect of the bactericidal action of both the silver and copper ions. |
