PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformly form a good mirror surface, a texture pattern or the like having no weld line on a resin combining unit of a mold for molding a thermoplastic resin by using an insert having a surface thin metal layer and a heat insulation layer on a portion corresponding to the unit. SOLUTION: An insert is constituted of a base material portion 7 made of a main material and a surface layer containing a heat insulation layer and a surface thin film metal layer 9. The surface layer is formed with a surface brought into contact with a thermoplastic resin on the material portion 7. The layer 9 is provided on a surface of the insert to largely improve durability of the mold. Thus, the resin is molded by using the mold, thereby obtaining a molding having excellent gloss, surface smoothness and transferability of a protrusion and recess pattern or the like and a good product appearance. Even in the case of foam molding, occurrence of a swirl mark on a surface of the molding can be prevented.
