PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter having high strength relatively inexpensively by adopting a wire mesh filter molded to form plural ribs in the circumference of the filter, in a filter useful to filter high temperature gas used for expanding a protective air bag for vehicle user. SOLUTION: A press molding die 101 used to form the ribs on the mesh filter is preferably produced from rigid tool steel and an inside cavity 103 partitioned with inside annular circumference is formed and also two inside diameters 105, 107 are preferably set. One of the inside diameters is formed to have plural grooves, namely channels 109 extending in parallel to the axis of the press molding die at equal intervals in the circumferential direction. The mesh filter is forcedly fitted into a tool with a plunger, then the grooves 109 form the outer periphery of the filter and the whole inside cavity is occupied with the mesh. When the filter with ribs are taken off from the forming tool, plural ribs 201 are formed at equal intervals along the outer periphery of the filter.
