PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress contamination of two or more color coating liquids at the time of changing the coating liquids in a coating apparatus comprising an extrusion type die head for intermittently applying two or more color coating liquids. SOLUTION: This coating apparatus comprises an extrusion type die head for applying at least two types of coating liquids to a traveling substrate in repeated patterns of the coating liquids by intermittently jetting the coating liquids through respective slots 4 and 5. The first lip 1 in the upstream side of a plurality of lips forming respective slots 4 and 5 is projected and at the same time the rest of the lips 2, 3 are so arranged as to keep the tip face in a same plane, so that disorder such as eddies of the coating liquids flowing in liquid pools can be prevented. Moreover, the tip sides of flow routes of the respective slots 4 and 5 are made thin, so that the accompanying eddies at the opening parts of the non-jetting side slots kept from jetting can be suppressed to be minimum.
