A deodorant and antibacterial water-absorbing agent comprising a water-absorbent resin (A), a compound (B) having an antibacterial function with respect to ammonia-producing bacteria, and an agent (C) having a neutralization ability or neutralization and adsorption abilities with respect to ammonia, wherein (A) and (B) are mixed and/or bonded; processes for producing the water-absorbing agent; and absorbent articles having an absorption layer in which the water-absorbing agent is held by a support comprising a fibrous material. The water-absorbing agent of the present invention is excellent in deodorant and antibacterial functions as well as in absorption capacities, which is essential for a water-absorbing agent, and powder handling properties (powder flowability, hygroscopic blocking resistance). Absorbent articles using this water-absorbing agent absorb liquids such as urine, blood, body fluids and the like, and display deodorant and antibacterial effects. The absorbent articles are useful in applications such as disposable diapers for adults and infants, incontinence pads, sanitary napkins, panty liners, mother's milk pads, parturition mats, underpads for medical treatment, and the like. |
