摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain an information recording medium, which can be erased at high speed and is proper for single beam overwrite, by providing a substrate and a recording layer generating a phase change, mainly consisting of a change between amorphous phase and nonequilibrium crystalline phase, in a section being irradiated with a light beam. CONSTITUTION:A protective layer 3, a recording layer 2, a protective layer 4, a reflecting layer 5 and a protective layer 6 are formed successively onto a substrate 1. The protective layer 3 and the protective layer 4 are arranged so as to hold the recording layer 2, and are composed of a transparent dielectric such as Al2O3, SiO2, ZrO2, ZnS, AlN, etc. A beam irradiating section in the recording layer 2 generates a phase change mainly consisting of a variation between amorphous and nonequilibrium crystalline phase according to the irradiating conditions of the light beam, and the recording layer 2 is formed of materials exhibiting different optical properties between these phases. Accordingly, the speed of the crystallization of amorphous phase can be increased, thus acquiring an information recording medium, which can be erased at high speed and is proper to single beam overwrite.
