PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for eliminating substances harmful to organisms from crude pyroligneous acid and for producing a high-quality pyroligneous acid material which contains useful components and can be used as a compounding ingredient for cosmetics, medicines, and food. SOLUTION: Substances harmful to organisms, i.e., formaldehyde, methanol, and a skin-irritating strongly acidic substance, are eliminated from crude pyroligneous acid by sufficiently mixing the crude pyroligneous acid with an active carbon powder under an acidic condition of a pH of 2.5 or lower, washing the carbon powder with pure water, efficiently eluting the effective components with an ethyl alcohol/ethyl acetate mixture, and evaporating the solvent layer to dryness; and the production of a high-quality pyroligneous acid material which contains useful components contained in the crude pyroligneous acid and can be used as a compounding ingredient for cosmetics, medicines, and food is made possible. |
