PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the reliability of the measurements of heartbeat signals by stabilizing in a low state the contact resistance between the electrodes of a signal detecting part provided on a steering wheel and the palms of the hands. SOLUTION: The electrodes of a signal detecting part 6 are provided on the grip part of a steering wheel. A heartbeat signal detecting part 1 samples heartbeat signals from the hands of a driver by means of the electrodes on the steering wheel during driving, and the heartbeat signals are outputted after noises are eliminated by a signal processing part 7. An ignition switch detecting part 3 outputs IS on signals is for a predetermined time after an ignition switch is turned on. When the IS on signal is inputted, a heater control part 5 monitors vehicle interior temperature detected by a vehicle interior temperature detecting part 4, and if the temperature is 30 degrees or less, a heater 2 embedded in the steering wheel is turned on. The temperature of the steering wheel rises as it is heated by the heater 2 to promote perspiration from the palms of the hands of the driver gripping the steering wheel, thereby stabilizing the contact resistance between the electrodes on the steering wheel and the palms in a low state. |
