PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain an olefin polymer. SOLUTION: This olefin polymer is obtained using a catalyst composed of (A) a phosphonic acid salt prepared by reaction between a phosphorus compound of the formula: RPO(OR')2 (R is a hydrocarbon or alkoxy group; R' is H or a hydrocarbon group) and a phosphoric acid salt of a group IV element, (B) a group IV transition metal compound and (C) as necessary, an organometallic compound having at least one kind of hydrocarbon group.
