PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fumigate soil so as to conveniently and efficiently control pests in the soil by gaseously or foggily spraying a specific agrochemical active ingredient in the space between the specific soil surface and a film. SOLUTION: Soil is disinfected by gaseouly or foggily spraying (B) an agrochemical active ingredient [e.g. chloropicrin(trichloronitromethane)], which shows a boiling point of 40 deg.C or more at atmospheric pressure and a vapor pressure of 0.5 mmHg/20 deg.C or more, in (A) the space between a film and the soil surface in the soil coated by a gas barrier film with oxygen gas transmittance (25 deg.C, 50%RH) of 8000 cc/m2/hr/atm or less, preferably 4000 cc/m2/hr/atm or less, and completing the treatment of the prescribed amount of the component A within 48 hrs. from the beginning of spraying to protect crops from damage caused by diseases and pests or weeds. When necessary, the component B can be used together with solvents, water, antioxidants, surfactants, stabilizers or the like.
