PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device which is capable of detecting objects, such as persons, over a wide range of a projection region and allows the fail-proof regulation of projected images, such as zooming and focusing, at the time of setting the screen of the projection type display device. SOLUTION: The projection type display device 1 has an object detecting means 50 which is disposed to face a projection screen 100 and a projected image control means which controls the projected image on the projection surface 100 according to the output of this object detecting means 50. The object detecting means 50 has an ultrasonic sensor 53 constituted to include a signal transmitting element 51 and a signal receiving element 52. Since the object detecting means 50 has this ultrasonic sensor 53, the setting of the ultrasonic signal from the signal transmitting element 51 over a wide range according to the projection region A is made possible and the detection of the objects over a wide range with the one sensor is made possible.
