PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium secondary battery having both of high capacity and a high rate. SOLUTION: In a secondary battery constructed by forming a negative electrode provided with a powder type active material-containing layer capable of storing/releasing lithium ions on a collector, a mean grain size of the active material powder is 12 μm or less, and a specific surface area is 2 m2/g or less.
