PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply the different photographing methods according to each purpose by holding the electric signal corresponding to the electric charge that is generated by a photodetector and selecting a mode where the switching element that controls the holding operation of the electric signal is always turned off and the electric signal is not held and read or a mode where the switching element is turned on and off and the electric signal is once held and then read. SOLUTION: An address transistor TR 9 is turned on and an amplifier TR 8 is set in an active state. Then a reset TR is turned on and reset. The signal of a light irradiation mode stored in a 1st holding capacitor 5 is read out and sent to a vertical signal line 16 via the TR 8. Then a 2nd sample-and-hold TR 6 is turned on, and the signal of a light non-irradiation mode stored in a 2nd holding capacitor 7 is read out and sent to the line 16 via the TR 8. These read signals of the light irradiation and light non-irradiation modes undergo the differential processing via a differential circuit 24.
