PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize optimum image recognition processing corresponding to a state and to promote high enhancement the efficiency of image recognition processing by detecting an interval of originals continuously carried on a carrier line, generating paper feed timing based on the detected interval information and controlling the drive of an original feeding means, based on the timing. SOLUTION: A detection sensor 15 detects the leading and final ends of a document carried on the carrier line and outputs its detection signals to a document detection part 16. A document interval detection part 17 connecting its output terminal to a paper feed timing adjusting part 19 calculates the reference interval of documents, based on the inputted transfer distance information and document leading end/rear end information and outputs interval information to the adjusting part 19. A paper feeding mechanism control part 21, connected to the output terminal of the detection part 16 and the output terminal of an acceleration time control part 22, generates a drive signal based on the inputted paper feed timing, document leading end/final end information and acceleration time information and controls the drive for feeding rollers in a paper feeding mechanism.
