PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device in which suppressing power consumption, making the device thin, making it high definition, and making it large screen can be easily performed and for which the installation place is not limited. SOLUTION: Picture information 11 is encoded (digitized) by a picture information coding section 12, and a digitized signal is outputted from an optical signal emitting sectional 12 as an optical pulse signal. In an optical signal receiving section in a display unit 15, a received optical signal is converted to an electric signal and outputted to a control sections 17. And in the control section 17, an inputted signal is decoded, and display is performed by controlling a display section 18 in accordance with the decoded signal. And plural display units 15 form a multiple display device in which matrix arrangement is performed.
