PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PWM control reactive power generator which does not shorten the period of a carrier wave to keep the voltage use rate high as an inverter device and quickly responds to the quick voltage change at a system accident to continue the operation without generating an overcurrent. SOLUTION: A system accident detection circuit 18.1 detects an opposite-phase component of a system voltage; and when this opposite-phase component exceeds a prescribed set value, its one shot circuit 22 outputs a pulse signal. A latch circuit 16c of a PWM control circuit 16.1 is reset by the output of this pulse signal, and a gate pulse based on the comparison output between the accident voltage and the carrier wave obtd. by a comparator 16a is sent. As the result, the inverter output voltage quickly responds to the accident voltage.
