In a multifeed jacquard circular knitting machine at least two patterning wheels are provided at each feed, each pattern wheel being responsible for 1/N of the pattern width where N is the number of pattern wheels at one feed and means are provided for retaining the patterning sinkers in their raised operating position for N-1 complete revolutions of the pattern wheel when knitting a pattern wider than the circumference of the wheel. Pattern sinkers 33 are selected by a punched continuous strip 26 and are raised by control members 40 to a jack operating position for needle selection. The control members 40 follow cam tracks at different levels 49, 49a, 49b the movement from one track to another being controlled by a pivotal element 50 and a pivotal tongue 51 which are turned by rack and pinion gears 68, 69, 62, 63, which are moved by inclined surfaces mounted on a gear rigid with the needle cylinder. |
