The seat of an invalid wheelchair is at least partly supported by a deformable quadrilateral comprising upper and lower bars 18, 19 mounted to the front end of the chassis by hinges 21, 22 and linked at the back by spacer 20. The backrest 35 of the chair is also supported on the spacer and its position is adjustable by moving the pivots 56, 57, by which the bars are linked to the spacer, forwards or backwards along the bars. The hinges 21, 22, 57 and 57 allow the quadrilateral 17 to change configuration so that the seat is raised, assisting the occupant of the chair to stand. A second quadrilateral (26 in Fig. 7, not shown) which supports the footrest of the chair, similarly changes to help the process. |
