Extension mechanism for wall-mounted electrical socket uses linearly-stored cable within a thin, narrow storage unit with internal rewind spring and brake

The mechanism comprises socket (1) connected at one end to a flexible conduit (3), such as a power cable, located in a storage unit (4) adapted to fit against a wall (13 in fig 3). The conduit (3) is supplied from a fixed entry point (15) and secured on a movable wheel (5) held against a return strip and spring (6,7) at the end opposite the socket. A brake (10) allows the cable extension to be held in an extended position. Release of the brake returns the cable into the storage unit by return movement of the wheel (5) thereby enabling the socket to be re-inserted in the storage unit. The thickness of the storage unit (4) is typically 1.2 to 2 times the diameter of the cable, with a depth typically 5 to 15 times that of the diameter; length is typically 500 to 1500 mm.
