PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication device which is effectively adaptive to a polling communication based upon the ITU-T recommendation V.34. SOLUTION: The facsimile communication device having transmit information set at the time of termination sends a CM signal of V.8 on receiving an ANSam signal between DC loop acquisition and ANSam signal transmission and sends a CJ signal of V.8 thereafter on receiving a JM signal of V.8 to start sending a line probing signal, thereby performing polling transmission. Further, the device sends the ANSam signal when the ANSam signal can not be received until the ANSam signal is transmitted after the said DC loop acquisition, sends a DIS signal of V.21 showing that the V.8 function is available and the transmit document is present when the CM signal of the V.8 can not be received, sends the CM signal of V.8 when the ANSam signal is received, and starts sending the CJ signal of V.8 and the line probing signal thereafter once the JM signal of V.8 is received, thereby performing the polling transmission.
