PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data processor which extremely easily designates a part that becomes an object to be processed by inserting a prescribed image or sound at the time of editing moving image data or sound data. SOLUTION: This processor waits until video data becomes data of a color bar (S1 and S3) and when the color bar once appears (S3: YES) and the color bar disappears (S7: NO), it outputs a start command to a compressor (S9). Thus, the compressor starts to compress the video data. Next, it waits until the video data becomes the data of a color bar (S11 and S13) and when it becomes the data of the color bar (S13: YES), it outputs a stop command to the compressor (S15). Thus, only the video data of a part where the compression is desired to be performed can be automatically compressed only by inserting the image of a color bar before and after the part at the time of editing video data.
